Arteta: Fracture to Keep Merino Out

Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Mohamed Elneny ahead of Arsenal's clash with Manchester City.

Arteta on Merino's Injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that midfielder Martin Odegaard has suffered a fractured ankle that will keep him out for several weeks.

The Norwegian playmaker sustained the injury in the Gunners' 3-1 loss to Manchester United on Saturday.

Arteta said: "Unfortunately, Martin has a fracture in his ankle. He will be out for a few weeks."

Odegaard to Miss Key Fixtures

Odegaard's injury is a blow to Arsenal, who are currently top of the Premier League table.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Gunners this season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 18 appearances.

Odegaard is now set to miss a number of important fixtures, including the upcoming clash with Manchester City on Wednesday.

Other Injury News

Arteta also provided an update on the fitness of Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny.

Tomiyasu is still recovering from a muscle injury, while Elneny is back in training but not yet ready to play.

Arteta said: "Takehiro is getting closer. He's not ready for tomorrow, but he's getting closer.

"Mo has been training with the team, but he's not fully fit yet. We'll have to assess him and see if he's ready for next weekend."
